On the nose, notes of red fruit and floral aromas infiltrate the senses. On the palate, a harmonious balance between flesh and tannins means it can be enjoyed after just a few years of cellaring. A delicate wine that is a perfect partner for wIBeDN4. The Gippsland wine region reaches from Victoria's high country in the north all the way to the Bass Strait in the south. It is capable of producing richly textured wines of distinction. Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Shiraz are the predominant varieties, though Pinot Gris is making a resurgence in recent years. It is the traditional Burgundian varieties of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay that are the regions highlights. West Gippsland is at approximately the same latitude as East Gippsland, but over 200 kms to the west, with the western boundary reaching the Yarra Valley. The climate in the West is less Mediterranean and warmer than the East as it is further inland. South Gippsland is the coolest of the Gippsland subregions, and is heavily influenced by the Bass Strait and the rainfall there is also higher than in the East or AOC in Côte de Beaune, Burgundy, is renowned as one of the most reliably excellent sources of Chardonnay in the world though there are also small amounts of Pinot Noir grown. There are more top producers here than anywhere else in Côte-d'Or, despite there not being any Grand Cru vineyards in the AOC. It's the incredible proliferation of high-quality Premier Cru and commune-level wine that makes this region so popular. Meursault Chardonnay is typically oaken in style, and is often described as having rich, buttery notes that are evidence of a classic Burgundy in the sub region east of the Tanaro river, in the province of Piedmont, Italy, the wine region of Langhe is home to rolling hills, winding roads, and of course, world renowned vineyards. The name Langhe’ translates to 'long low-lying hills' in Italian. Besides wine, this area is also known for white truffles, hazelnuts, chocolate and cheese. Some of the most prestigious and indeed expensive wines in Italy such as Barolo, Barbaresco, Dogliani and Asti are produced here along with the wines that are made with more relaxed production restriction; the Langhe DOC. The Langhe DOC allows winemakers to experiment with different techniques that would not be licensed under other DOCs. In the words of Angelo Fornara, a sommelier from this area, “Each vineyard cru is like a new human being. It has its own identifiable characteristics that define it just like you and me.” The development of the skin and aroma of the grapes are aided by the extreme differences in the temperatures during the day and night of this area, and the soils which are mixed with marl or calcium carbonate, which produce a wide variety of wines. Arneis, Nascetta, Favorita, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay are some of the white grapes grown in this area, and Nebbiolo, Dolcetto, Barbera, Freisa, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are a few of the reds grown is home to the biggest names in Central Otago Pinot Noir and is warmer than the cooler Gibbston two hours outside of Melbourne, the Pyrenees wine region is a spectacular piece of countryside. The rugged foothills and untamed ranges at the southern end of the Great Dividing Range offer top-notch winemaking conditions, as well as some incredible scenery. A total of 44 vineyards are tucked into the Pyrenees, taking advantage of the range of microclimates among the hills. Although it's primarily known for its spicy reds, the region also produces world-class Chardonnays and Sauvignon River is the name of a river, town and key wine region. It is one of the younger viticultural regions in Australia, quickly gaining popularity for its world-class wine. Located 280km South of Perth in Western Australia, the first plantings were only made in 1967. The region has grown rapidly and is recognised as one of the great wine-producing regions of the world, with over 200 wineries in operation. Made up of predominantly boutique producers, with a number of big player wineries also, the region makes up only 3% of the Australian wine production, but commands over 20% of the premium wine market. The wineries in the region are vibrant, innovative and progressive in their approach to viticulture. The Mediterranean style climate provides superior maritime growing conditions, with vines not affected by extreme summer and winter temperatures. The region is well known for producing outstanding red wines; Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and to a lesser extent Shiraz, Tempranillo and Malbec. Both straight varietals and famous Bordeaux blends can be outstanding. In the white wines, Chardonnays of great depth and character, and fresh Semillon Sauvignon Blanc blends are the main varietals the region is famous for. Lesser quantities of Viognier, Riesling and Muscat are also being a part of the Peel wine region and the South west Coastal Plain, the wine region of Geographe was formally established in 1999. This area was named after the ship of a French Explorer, Captain Nicholas Baudin. Located less than two hours drive south of Perth, in Western Australia, Geographe is home to a beautiful landscape surrounded by rural native bush hinterland and beautiful beaches. In a region spanning of 1,200 hectares there are currently approximately 40 wineries operating in Geographe, all within the four wine producing districts of Geographe Harvey, Ferguson Valley, Donnybrook, and Capel. These districts produce exciting, dynamic Shiraz, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Sémillon wines that they are well known for. The climate of Geographe is blissfully consistent, with long warm summer days and cool winters, which makes it well suited for growing a various range of grapes.
